18-year-old pianist from Uzbekistan wins first place award at the London International Piano Competition 2009

Behzod Abduraimov, a student of the Park University International Centre for Music, was announced as the winner of the London International Piano Competition that took place in London from April 18 to April 28, 2009.

Behzod is the youngest person to have won the first prize in the history of the competition. He came first among 24 talented pianists. Awarded the top prize at the Royal Festival Hall, Behzod will receive a cash award, a solo recording on the Naxos/Marco Polo label, as well as a series of concerts, including a joint performance with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and a concert at Wigmore Hall.

Behzod Abduraimov is currently studying towards a BA degree. His success was met with enthusiasm within the Uzbek community of London, which also set up a fan page for the winner on the Facebook social network website.
