The ceremony of opening the 2010 Francophonie Week took place on March 26, 2010, at Magtymguly Turkmen National Music and Drama Theatre. The cultural action is organized by the Embassy of France in Turkmenistan in collaboration with the Embassies of Ukraine, Armenia, the Republic of Poland and Romania with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture and Broadcasting in Turkmenistan.
The International Day of Francophonie – the festival for all those speaking and studying the French language is celebrated each year on March 20. 40 years ago on March 20, 1970the agreement on the establishment of the first intergovernmental organization which unites the French-speaking countries was signed. The ceremony of opening the film festival of the fraternal peoples “Cinema: Open Borders” took place at the Vatan Cinema and Concert Hall in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, on March 26, 2010. The cultural action is organized by the Ministry of Culture and Broadcasting of Turkmenistan, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Turkmenistan and V/K Sovexportfilm Public Corporation. The project is implemented under the aegis and with the support of the CIS Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of countries (IFHC).
The CIS Film Festival “Cinema: Open Borders” was held last year in Ukraine, Armenia, Kazakhstan. Today the film forum is extending its geography. Its name “open borders” speaks for itself, because its purpose and main idea is to enhance the cultural dialogue in the CIS, strengthen friendship and mutual understanding among the peoples of the Commonwealth, foster professional contacts between cinematographers of the fraternal countries. A new German-Kyrgyz dictionary presentation was held in Zhusup Balasagyn Kyrgyz National University in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on March 26. Teachers, students, graduate students participated at the presentation of the two-volume German-Kyrgyz Dictionary.
Dictionary, compiled under the guidance of Professor Pamira Kadyrbekova contains about 70.000 words and phrases and includes concepts from the field of literature, science, culture, politics, economy, sports and public life. The creation of two volumes took 15 years.
“I worked over the dictionary in co-authorship with KNU teachers – Venera Molkubatova, Kubat Osmonakunova and Saira Osmonova, – says Pamira Kadyrbekova. – In Soviet times there were pocket German-Kyrgyz dictionaries with 15,000 words, but it was impossible to find them. Our students used German-Russian dictionary under the editorship of Olga Moskalskaya and a dictionary of Elina Leping-Strakhova. The new dictionaries, probably, will be provided for German teaching schools, in German departments of universities and libraries. Total size of edition is 200 copies”
Ambassador of Germany in Kyrgyzstan Holger Gran expressed his joy at the fact that many people who came to the presentation of the dictionary, express interest in the German language. According to him, it is impossible to muitually understand each other without language, and that the language is a bridge of understanding between countries.
Teachers of German, in turn, called the publication of German dictionary “important event” and expressed the hope that in future its circulation will be increased.
On March 27, as part of his working visit to Tehran, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met President of Iraq Jalal Talabani.
During the meeting Iraqi President announced his intention to soon send an ambassador of his country to Turkmenistan. At the same time, Jalal Talabani noted that the successful development of relations between the two countries depends on the political will and existing vast resource and economic potential of Turkmenistan and Iraq, who established diplomatic relations last year.
Jalal Talabani also briefed Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov about Turkmen community living in Iraq, many of which can hold high and responsible positions, taking an active part in political and public life.”
