World Bank awards Community Agriculture and Watershed Management Project in Tajikistan

n29The Community Agriculture and Watershed Management Project in Tajikistan was named one of the 12 winners in the World Bank’s third annual ‘Improving the Lives of People in Europe and Central Asia’ 2010 competition.

”More than 40,000 households in over 400 rural, upland villages have benefited from the Community Agriculture and Watershed Management Project. The project is notable in Tajikistan for its participatory approach in which villagers play key roles in identifying and managing small-scale agricultural, sustainable land management and infrastructure investments,” said Tohir Ostonaev, Director of the Project Management Unit in Dushanbe. “Furthermore, the CAWMP partnership with the World Bank has highlighted the importance of environmental considerations in agricultural production in upland areas, and is helping rural populations respond to global challenges, especially climate change.” Continue reading

Kyrgyz Diaspora in Europe and America continues to raise funds for victim assistance in the events of April 6-8 in Kyrgyzstan.

The Kyrgyz Diaspora recently organized a fund «April Relief Fund». The collected funds will be sent to Bishkek, the fund site says. Last week, about 5 thousand dollars were already collected.

The list of beneficiaries will include the wounded, the families of the victims, and representatives of vulnerable populations, which are directly or indirectly affected by the events of 6-8 April 2010. An special team in Kyrgyzstan held a meeting with the local associations and NGOs, which will work together with those members, who are working on the ground and have information about different groups of victims. n32Tajikistan developed a project “The concept of transition to a new system of education”. Tajikistan hopes that to improve the quality of education, education should move to a new system, which provides ten-year education.

Most beautiful “Heavenly Horse” competition begins in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan

The first qualifying round of the competition for the best Akhal Teke horse was held at the State Racetrack in Ashgabat on April 15.
