Kyrgyzstan to hold polls on October 10

Kyrgyzstan’s interim government yesterday set a date for parliamentary and presidential elections, stepping up efforts to build legitimacy after the country’s ousted president fled into exile.

The elections will be held on October 10, said Omurbek Tekebayev, deputy head of the interim government, which took power two weeks ago in a popular uprising which ousted president Kurmanbek Bakiyev. Continue reading

University of World Economy and Diplomacy Holds Model UN Conference

n56The University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) in close partnership with the UNDP in Uzbekistan hosted a day-long student’s conference of Model UN on 17 April 2010. The theme of this year’s conference was “Global Climate Change: Agenda for the Future”. Over 70 students of the University performed a hands-on simulation conference of international negotiation representing permanent members of the UN Security Council plus 30 countries of Asia-Pacific, Caribbean, Africa, America, Europe and the Middle East. Quality Managers Forum takes place in Uzbek capital

n55The Third International Quality Managers Forum in Uzbekistan “TQM UZ – 2010” took place in Tashkent on 21-22 April under the slogan “Quality on the way to economic development”.

The event was organized by the Uzbek State Agency for Standardization, Metrology and Certification (UzStandard), Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, State Committee for Nature Protection of Uzbekistan, International Association of Quality Managers and Auditors (IAQMA), InterSert Consulting Tashkent LLC, German Society for technical co-operation (GTZ) and SGS Tashkent Ltd foreign enterprise. Countries of Eastern Partnership to get 9 million euro for culture development

n54The tender for participation in the contest within Eastern Partnership Culture Program will be launched in late 2010. It will be financed under the European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI) to the amount of 9 million euro, published the Annual Work Program ENPI East.

The overall objective of the Program is to support the role of culture in the region’s sustainable development and to promote regional cooperation between public institutions, civil society cultural organizations, and foundations and academic organizations in the Eastern Partnership region and the EU. St George’s Ribbon action launched in Tajikistan

n52Initiated by the Russian Embassy in Dushanbe and Russian Military Base 201 in Tajikistan, the St. George’s Ribbon action to commemorate the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 was launched in Tajikistan on April 22, 2010.

The action in memory of the victims of World War II has been carried out in Tajikistan under the motto of “I Remember, I Am Proud!” for already four years.

Yesterday, representatives from TV studio at the Russian military base were handing over the ribbons to people at the Dousti Square in Dushanbe. Continue reading
