From 15 to 19 May, Dushanbe will be hosting the International Festival of professional musical art «Bahoriston» devoted to piano music «PIANO-FORTE». The festival is held with the financial support of the Arts and Culture program of the «Open Society» Institute – Assistance Foundation – Tajikistan. The festival will be attended by world famous pianists David Korevaar (USA), Vazgen Vartanyan and Shkarupa Valery (Russia), Zaytoun Narynbaeva, Gulshan Konusheva (Kyrgyzstan), Sergey Kim (Kazakhstan), as well as representatives of the National Conservatory of Kazakhstan named after Kurmangazy. Since becoming President in 2003, Ilham Aliyev has invigorated Azerbaijan’s foreign policy, whilst considerably expanding its diplomatic service and network of overseas embassies. For the moment, diplomacy remains the weapon of choice in Azerbaijan’s efforts to secure the return of Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding territories, occupied by Armenia since 1994, and this remains the top foreign policy priority. Azerbaijan’s national interest, however, now requires the President and his government to take other issues into consideration, including the promotion and safeguarding of Azerbaijan as an important global energy player, together with balancing delicate geo-strategic relations with regional and global powers, such as Russia, the US, Iran, Turkey and the EU.
