The HealthProm team warmly invites you to take part in its second annual Great Expectations Sponsored Cycle Ride. We are raising valuable funds to keep more families together in Tajikistan and improve the quality of life for babies already in homes.

Where will we cycle to?

Armenian experimental composer Karen Grigoryan (White Illusions suit).

stronger. Music is one of the main factors in this process.

Musical instruments in Central Asia are usually considered to have a supernatural

power. Used in daily life and celebrations through myths and legends, they are

From Quilts to Couture in Kyrgyzstan

Following the success of previous exhibitions of international textile art, most

recently from Mongolia, Iran and Japan, the Collins Gallery has originated the

UK’s first exhibition of contemporary fashion and textile art from Kyrgyzstan.

Curated in close collaboration with Kyrgyz textile specialist, Dr Stephanie

Bunn, Department Social Anthropology, University of St Andrews, and Dinara

Chochunbaeva, Director of Central Asia Crafts Support Association in Kyrgyzstan,

this vibrant and comprehensive exhibition represents the practices of some 50

designers and makers from Bishkek, Naryn and Issy Kul regions. Traditional

techniques such as shyrdak , chiy and felt making as well as the more universal

practices of weaving and embroidery are illustrated in a broad range of decorative

hangings, soft furnishings ,dolls and clothing, all of which will be displayed alongside

high fashion and accessories created by internationally established designers whose

collections are showcased on the catwalks of Paris, New York, Santa Fe, Washington,

Moscow, Beijing and Bishkek. Also included, are more experimental collections by

new graduates of Design and Fashion from the Slavic University, most of whom have

secured placements and employment in Fashion Houses worldwide, and by Altynai

Osmoeva, currently studying at St Martin’s College, London. Continue reading

From 15 March to 17 September 2011 the British Embassy Astana is holding the “Going for Gold” campaign towards Olympic Games arriving to the UK next year. This comprises a series of enjoyable events involving Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan people featuring UK as an open, connected, dynamic and creative country.

London exhibition of works by the Azerbaijani artist Naile Zulfuqarova

The European Azerbaijan Society is pleased to inform you of the inaugural London exhibition of works by the Azerbaijani artist Naile Zulfuqarova. Currently resident in London, Naile holds a Master’s degree from the Azerbaijan State University of the Arts, and her work comprises colourful abstract and figurative portraits and still lifes painted in oils and acrylics (http://www.wix.com/nailezulfuqarova/naile-zulfuqarova).
