medvedDmitry Medvedev sent his congratulations to President of the Kyrgyz Republic Roza Otunbayeva on the 20th anniversary of Kyrgyzstan’s independence.

The message reads, in part:

“In recent years, your Republic has faced some serious trials. I am certain that the friendly people of Kyrgyzstan will successfully overcome existing difficulties and continue their steady progress on the path toward strengthening Kyrgyzstan’s statehood and socioeconomic development.

It is a pleasure to note the highly dynamic nature of Russian-Kyrgyzstani political dialogue, which is allowing us to resolve current issues on the bilateral agenda in the spirit of allied partnership and on the basis of consistently implementing existing agreements. Continue reading

Kyrgyzstan’s celebrates independence 20 anniversary

20-anniversaryKyrgyzstan, the first country who declared independence among Turkic Republics, will celebrate its 20th Independence Anniversary with a rich and colourful program at Topkapi Turkish World Cultural Neighbourhood governed by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Kultur A.S.. This celebration ceremonies, supported by Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) and our member Municipalities, shall start at 17:00 on 31 August 2011.

Kazakhstan ballet dancers in New York

In New York young dancers from 15 countries, including Kazakhstan have shown such staging as Swan Lake, Don Quixote and Sleeping Beauty ballets. The Moscow State Choreographic Academy, also known as the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, has finished its master class in New York with a bang: with the gala concert at the stage of the Theatre of Contemporary Dance.

GETTING CLOSER TO ASTANA

The preparations for the Astana-2011 Environment
for Europe Conference enter their final stage.
On 24 May 2011 the Committee on Environmental Policy
will open in Geneva for a special session to discuss the
final preparatory activities for the Seventh
Ministerial Conference to be held in Astana,
Kazakhstan on 21-23 September 2011.

The Committee is expected to approve the Conference
agenda as well as the two substantive documents
prepared on the Conference’s two main themes, i.e., on
sustainable management of water and water-related
ecosystems, and on greening the economy :
mainstreaming the environment into economic

XII ESCAS Biennial Conference

The European Society for Central Asian Studies (ESCAS) invites proposals

for individual papers, panels and round-table discussions for the twelfth

ESCAS biennial conference scheduled for 20 – 22 September 2011 at the

University of Cambridge, UK. The Conference will be hosted by the Cambridge

Central Asia Forum (http://www.cambridge-centralasia.org/), Cambridge

Kazakhstan Centre and the UK Committee for Central and Inner Asia.

ESCAS welcomes proposals relating to all aspects of research in the arts,

humanities and social sciences on Central Asia – namely the republics of

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, together

with Xinjiang, Mongolia, Afghanistan and adjacent regions of Russia, China,
