    President inaugurates Tajik-Greek JV, new school in Bobojonghafurov districtPresident Emomali Rahmon has inaugurated a new Tajik-Greek joint venture, Olympia, in Bobojonghafurov district, Sughd province.

    Launched by closed joint-stock company, Khujand-Invest-Cotton, and the Greek company, EMKAT S.A., the enterprise processes cotton seeds and grains.  A total project cost is 2.130 million euros. Read more »

    Malaysian, Tashkent Islamic University sign MOU

    International Islamic University Malaysia and Tashkent Islamic University signed a memorandum of understanding on Friday.

    In line with the document, more mathematicians, physicians and scientists from Uzbekistan will come to the Malaysian university.

    IIUM Rector Datuk Seri Syed Arabi Idid said Uzbekistan had many theoretical experts on mathematics and science due to influence from Russia. “We hope we can bring in some of them here,” he told the media after signing the MoU.

    Tashkent Islamic University Rector Ravshan Abdullaev described the MoU as a good platform for research cooperation and exchange of materials and staff. “However, our priority is to establish knowledge exchange in Islam and secular science,” he said.

    8th Islam Karimov Kurash Tournament

    This year’s competition returned to Sittingbourne, Great Britain where previous Islam Karimov Kurash tournaments were held in 2005 and 2006. Despite overall numbers of competitors being well down on the last few years, a situation not helped by 3 countries being unable to obtain visas, the standard of kurash was high with the Uzbekistan team fielding no less than 3 senior men’s world champions in the shape of Olim Ravshanov, Furkat Mamatov and Sherali Juraev and Great Britain providing several seasoned international kurash competitors including Jack Webb, Joyce Malley and Paul Sawyer, all of whom had medaled in World and European championships in the past.
