    “Asian Reunion on Silk Road” exhibition in Bishkek

    From July 23 to 25, 2010, an exhibition will be opened, called “Asian Reunion on Silk Road, in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

    According to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the exhibition will present paintings of Japanese artist Izumi Sakamoto and Kyrgyz artist Rahat Itikeev. Read more »

    SSTL Kicks Off Small Satellite For Kazakhstan

    SSTL Kicks Off Small Satellite For KazakhstanSSTL has commenced building a small satellite for the Republic of Kazakhstan that will provide medium resolution multi-spectral earth observation capability to complement the high resolution satellite that is being provided by EADS Astrium as part of the contract awarded to the company in October 2009.

    The Republic of Kazakhstan is utilising the latest Earth Observation (EO) satellite technologies from EADS Astrium and its subsidiary SSTL to create a national system which will support its government with resource monitoring, resource management, land-use mapping and environmental monitoring information for policy and decision making.     Azerbaijan marks National Press Day today

    July 22nd, 2010

    Today marks 135-year anniversary since establishment of a national press in Azerbaijan. Publicist Hasan bey Zardabi published the first issue of “Akinchi” (”The Ploughman”), the first newspaper in Azerbaijan on July 22, 1875.

    The first newspaper had only 56 issues and was published from July 22, 1875 to September, 1877. He played an irreplaceable role in development of national press in Azerbaijan. Read more »

    Effected water resources management in region in focus of international forum in TurkmenistanThe international forum entitled “Central Asia Water Dialogue Meeting: Implementation of the IFAS Summit Conclusions and Outcomes of the UN Secretary-General’s visit to Central Asia” took place in the Turkmen capital. The participants of the forum held at the UN Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia were the high-ranking officials of the Central Asian governments and the authoritative international organizations including the United Nations, the European Union, OSCE, the World Bank and the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS). The representatives of the Afghan Government and UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan took part as observers. Read more »

    Tajikistan puts forward Mountain of Pamirs and archeological site of Sarazm for possible inscription on UNESCO World heritage List

    This year’s session of the World Heritage Committee to consider World Heritage Tentative List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) runs in the Brazilian capital, Brasilia from 25 July to 3 August.

    According to it, for the first time, Tajikistan, Kiribati, and Marshall Islands have put forward sites for possible inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Read more »
