    The Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA) is pleased to announce its
    Third Annual PhD Workshop.  The PhD Workshop is part of ADA’s PhD
    Development and Support Program and will take place on December 19-21,
    2010, in Baku, Azerbaijan.  The Workshop will bring together PhDs and
    PhD candidates in all disciplines of social science, with special
    emphasis on political science, economics, environmental studies and
    international law.  The workshop agenda includes a PhD Education Fair,
    a plenary session, thematic panels, and a special symposium featuring
    presentations by the ADA PhD Development and Support Program fellows.

    UNESCO Director General and Azerbaijani ministers hold round table in Baku

    UNESCO Director General and Azerbaijani ministers hold round table in BakuA round table with the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO took place in Baku on July 29.

    UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova attended the event. A Chairman of the National Commission, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov delivered an opening speech at the round table. He emphasized close relations between Azerbaijan and UNESCO and said UNESCO Good Will Ambassador and First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva had attached great importance to the relations with this organization.

    Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev said Baku would host a forum dedicated to the dialogue between the cultures next April and heads of states, ministries and organizations, as well as famous cultural figures were expected to attend this event.

    UNESCO will support the forum held under the auspices of President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.

    Irina Bokova said UNESCO was protecting traditions, languages and cultural heritages of the countries.

    One of the most prestigious European opera festivals held annually in Munich brought together opera stars, conductors and directors from 36 countries of Europe and the U.S., Latin America and Japan this year.     Working group established for making amendments to “Law on Tourism”“Now we are working to make amendments to a “Law on Tourism” and in this connection a working group has been created”. Musa Guliyev, a Deputy Chairman of Social Politics Committee of Milli Mejlis said.

    According to him, last year there were carried out some works in order to improve legal base in the field of tourism.

    New amendments will cover giving certificates to tourism companies, registration and other fields. He noted that new amendments would have influence on tourism sphere: “I think there will be established new tourism facilities meetings high standards.”

    Azerbaijani film to attend “Kinoshok” International Film Festival

    Azerbaijani film to attend _Kinoshok_ International Film Festival

    On September 13-21, Russian city Anapa will hold an International Film Festival “Kinoshok”. Film “The Dolls” by a director Chingiz Rasulzadeh has been invited to the festival, said the director himself. According to him, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism will prepare a high-level copy of the film in Russian for the festival. The drama film “The Dolls” deals with events happened in Azerbaijan in 1988 and the period of the Karabakh movement.

    Note that screen writers of the film are Ramiz Fataliyev, Chingiz Rasulzadeh, a director is Chingiz Rasulzadeh, a cameraman Yuri Varnovski, a painter Rovshan Mehdiyev. Mehriban Khanlarova, Abbas Gahramanov, Nubar Novruzova, Khalida Guliyeva, Javid Guliyeva and others star in the film.

    Azerbaijan marks National Press Day today

    July 22nd, 2010

    Today marks 135-year anniversary since establishment of a national press in Azerbaijan. Publicist Hasan bey Zardabi published the first issue of “Akinchi” (”The Ploughman”), the first newspaper in Azerbaijan on July 22, 1875.

    The first newspaper had only 56 issues and was published from July 22, 1875 to September, 1877. He played an irreplaceable role in development of national press in Azerbaijan. Read more »

    Baku to host 1st annual symposium of researchers of international relations

    July 20th, 2010

    First annual symposium of the researchers of international relations will take place in Baku on October 22-23.
    Organizers of the symposium held a press conference on Tuesday. Representative of the Caucasus University Rovshan Ibrahimov said international relations were a new research field for Azerbaijan and primarily this field was restricted with the education of diplomats at the different universities. Emphasizing the development of Azerbaijan, Ibrahimov said it became an important research sphere. Read more »

    Azerbaijan’s Gabala region to host International Music Festival

    Azerbaijan's Gabala region to host International Music FestivalThe International Music Festival will take place in the Azerbaijani Gabala region on July 23-August 5 with the support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

    The talented musicians from the U.S., Russia, Britain, France and Italy will attend this traditional festival, the Fund reported.

    Leading culture figures Yuri Bashmet, Boris Berezovsky and Al Jerome, as well as young musicians will take part in the event. The festival will also hold master-classes as in the previous year.

    The festival audience will be presented concert programs of the Azerbaijan State Orchestra named after Uzeyir Hajibeyli and the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The program includes works by U. Hajibayli, G.Garayev, F.Amirov, P.Tchaikovsky, S.Rakhmaninov, Mozart, Schubert and other composers.

    During the festival, jazz lovers can listen to jazz performance of Al Jerome, seven-time winner of the prestigious American award “Grammy.”

    Baku to host First Caucasian Forum on Renewable Energy and Trade Fair

    The First Caucasian Forum on Renewable Energy and Trade Fair will take place in Baku September 7-8, 2010.

    The objectives of the Forum and Trade Exhibition are:

    · Further development and transfer of environmentally clear technologies, as well as accelerating the growth of the industry of renewable energy sources and its suppliers in the Caucasus region;

    · Attracting of oil and gas companies, banks and investment institutions to further successful investment in the industry of renewable energy in the Caucasus region.

    The main topics of the Forum:

    · Legislation in the Caucasus region,

    · Sources of funding

    · Opportunities for the development of environmental business in the Caucasus region,

    · Environmentally clear business and technology transfer.

    The first International Trade Fair “Green Business”, which will be held during the Forum, provides an opportunity for a mini-stand or expositional table for presentations.
