    Central Asian Crafts Fair to be held in Bishkek

    Central Asian Crafts Fair to be held in BishkekIn Bishkek from July 30 to August 1 will take the Central Asian Crafts Fair.
    The fair will be presented traditional and contemporary products from felt, silk, natural fabrics, semiprecious stones, carpets and accessories with embroidery, pottery and more.

    This event is organized by Resource Center of the Central Asian Crafts Support Association.

    Central Asian Crafts Support Association (CACSA) serves as an umbrella for its over 50 members craft development centers and NGOs from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan by providing communication links, marketing support, product development training, sales opportunities, and other needed services. In 1994, the American NGO Aid to Artisans (ATA) began a four-year program in Central Asia focused on advancing the socio-economic condition of Central Asian artisans and expanding cultural awareness through the development of regional crafts centers. At the conclusion of the program, these crafts centers decided to continue ATA’s efforts and organized themselves into the founding members of CACSA.

    Kyrgyzstan’s technical government sets 100-day plan

    New publication by Judith Beyer and Zemfira Inogamova - Baiyz Apanyn Zhashoo Tarzhymaly in Kyrgyz

    Baiyz Apa (kyrg. “Mother Baiyz”) is an elderly Kyrgyz woman born in 1927 in northwestern Kyrgyzstan. The book serves as an extraordinary example of the lives of many Kyrgyz elders who have witnessed the beginning as well as the demise of the Soviet Union. The book consists of five sections: Childhood, School and War Times, Marriage and Family, Life in the Kolkhoz, and a concluding section in which she reflects on the years gone by. The story is told in Baiyz Apa’s own words and structured in a chronological way according to her own suggestions.

    OSCE Foreign Ministers Informal Meeting in Almaty, Kazakhstan

    July 23rd, 2010

    An informal meeting of OSCE Foreign Ministers, hosted by the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Kazakhstan’s State Secretary and Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev, was held on 16 and 17 July near Almaty.

    During the meeting, to take place at the Ak-Bulak Resort, 35 kilometers south-east of Almaty, Foreign Ministers and other high-level representatives from the 56 OSCE participating States considered matters related to security in Europe and the OSCE’s role, including the agenda of a possible OSCE Summit proposed by the Kazakhstan’s OSCE Chairmanship. Some 40 Foreign Ministers are set to participate in the informal meeting. Read more »

    Donor Conference to be held for Kyrgyzstan

    A group of Russian experts paid a working trip to the Osh City. Main purpose of the visit was to assess the extent of destruction. During the trip, experts met with local authorities and ordinary residents. According to latest figures, 2.500 buildings, including 1.900 residential ones, were destroyed during the clashes.     Effected water resources management in region in focus of international forum in TurkmenistanThe international forum entitled “Central Asia Water Dialogue Meeting: Implementation of the IFAS Summit Conclusions and Outcomes of the UN Secretary-General’s visit to Central Asia” took place in the Turkmen capital. The participants of the forum held at the UN Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia were the high-ranking officials of the Central Asian governments and the authoritative international organizations including the United Nations, the European Union, OSCE, the World Bank and the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).     CSTO leaders to discuss situation in Kyrgyzstan at informal summit in Erevan in August

    The informal summit of the leaders of the Collective Security Treaty Organizations will be held in 20-s of August in Erevan, reported RIA Novosti with reference to CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha. There is agreement between the presidents, he added.”The agenda of the meeting is developed now, which will be submitted for consideration of the President of Armenia and other CSTO leaders in the nearest days,” Bordyuzha said. The situation in Kyrgyzstan will be considered at the summit, CSTO Secretary General said. CSTO includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
