    Horses are wings of Kyrgyz people“At Chabysh 2010” annual festival will be held in Murghab, Tajikistan on July 17-18, 2010. “At-Chabysh 2010” is festival dedicated to the Kyrgyz horses. 20 Kyrgyz horses will participate in this event.

    “At-Chabysh 2010” used to be divided into four parts. However, since the tragic events in the South of Kyrgyzstan, the other 3 events were delayed. “At-Chabysh 2010” in Osh, Djalal-Abad and Issyk-Kul are postponed until year 2011. Read more »

    The Pentagon Spreading Wealth in Central Asia

    The Pentagon appears set to spend over $40 million on security infrastructure projects in Central Asia. The money for the building spree will come from US Central Command’s counter-narcotics fund.

    Notices published on the US-government’s Federal Business Opportunities website, FBO.gov, indicate that Pentagon dollars will go toward the construction of military training centers in Osh, Kyrgyzstan, and Karatog, Tajikistan, and also a canine training facility and helicopter hangar near Almaty, Kazakhstan. In addition, the Pentagon will fund border-crossing checkpoints in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan and refurbish existing border outposts in Kyrgyzstan. Read more »

    Kyrgyzstan voters approve new constitution

    Despite fears about another outbreak of ethnic violence, Kyrgyzstan has voted on a new constitution that could pave the way for the first parliamentary democracy in Central Asia.

    Kyrgyzstan’s new constitution has been approved by more than 90 percent of voters, according to early results from the country’s electoral commission, clearing the way for Central Asia’s first parliamentary democracy. Read more »

    A campaign is launched - I want peace in Kyrgyzstan - in Bishkek and Osh

    A public campaign is running in Bishkek and Osh, under the slogan “I want peace in Kyrgyzstan”, which is actively spreading the message of peace and harmony, and promoting the peaceful settlement of the situation. Mirsulzhan Namazaliev, one of the organizers of the campaign, reported.

    As he announced today on June 23, the initiators and the driving force behind the campaign are active Internet users and a number of civic activists. During this campaign, residents of these cities will distribute various information leaflets, stickers and T-shirts with slogans calling for peace and harmony of citizens of Kyrgyzstan. The participants of the campaign sat up a map with data on the humanitarian aid provided to the residents of the south of Kyrgyzstan.

    Training on the development of editorial policy for journalists is being held in Osh

    Training on the development of editorial policy for journalists is being held in Osh

    On June 8, in Osh city, training began for representatives of broadcasters, publications, information portals in Kyrgyzstan and government officials to develop a unified editorial policy in reporting conflicts in the republic.

    According to experts of UNDP, the upcoming training was created to improve public access to quality information in Kyrgyzstan.

    The participants will discuss the basic rights of the target audience in covering conflicts, will explore the analysis of mass media in Kyrgyzstan, the legal field of journalism and the fundamentals of conflict, and learn the proper way to present the objective information to the public.

    Upon completion of training, participants should develop and agree upon a common editorial policy for the media coverage of conflicts of Kyrgyzstan.

    The event is conducted by the Osh Media Resource Center with support from UNDP, as well as the NED, the Soros Foundation, the International Red Cross and the OSCE.

    Training will be completed on June 11, 2010.
