    Central Asian Crafts Fair to be held in BishkekIn Bishkek from July 30 to August 1 will take the Central Asian Crafts Fair.
    The fair will be presented traditional and contemporary products from felt, silk, natural fabrics, semiprecious stones, carpets and accessories with embroidery, pottery and more.

    This event is organized by Resource Center of the Central Asian Crafts Support Association.

    Central Asian Crafts Support Association (CACSA) serves as an umbrella for its over 50 members craft development centers and NGOs from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan by providing communication links, marketing support, product development training, sales opportunities, and other needed services. In 1994, the American NGO Aid to Artisans (ATA) began a four-year program in Central Asia focused on advancing the socio-economic condition of Central Asian artisans and expanding cultural awareness through the development of regional crafts centers. At the conclusion of the program, these crafts centers decided to continue ATA’s efforts and organized themselves into the founding members of CACSA.

    15 Tajik athletes nominated for London-2012 grantsThe National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Tajikistan has nominated 15 Tajik athletes for the London-2012 grants, instituted by the International Olympic Committee, Murodali Teshayev, a spokesman for NOC.

    “Among them are Rasoul Boqiyev, Muhammad Abdurahmonov, Sherali Bozorov (judo); Jahon Qurbonov, Anvar Yunusov, Mavzouna Choriyeva (boxing); Dilshod Nazarov and Galina Mityaeva (athletics); Yusuf Abdusalomov (free-style wrestling); Murod Tuychiyev (Greco-Roman wrestling); Farhod Anaqulov  (free-style wrestling); Sergey Babikov (shooting); Alisher Gulov (taekwon-do WTF); Firouza Zubaydova (archery); and Nizom Sangov (weight lifting),” the spokesman said.

    The IOC Commission has not yet determined the grant amount, he added.

    New 13-story press house to be built in Khujand by 20th anniversary of Tajikistan’s IndependenceThe Press House will be constructed in Khujand, the capital of Sughd province by the 20th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence that will be marked on September 9, 2011, Sughd governor Qohir Rasoulzoda told reporters on July 22.

    The first six floors of this 13-story building have already been completed.

    “The Press House will provide all necessary conditions for activities of local media,” the governor said, noting that the building will be home to both state-run and independent media.”

    EFCA Creates Jobs for Vulnerable Groups of TajikistanWith the support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Astana, the Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia began to finance a series of projects targeted at poverty reduction of vulnerable groups in the Khatlon and Rudaki regions of Tajikistan.

    The program funds six projects which intend to create jobs for persons with disabilities and individuals living in rural parts of the country. One of the projects foresees a sewing workshop for groups of persons with disabilities in Kulob and Kurgan Tube with the intention to eventually open their own tailoring shop. Similar workshops will open for social orphans in the Rudaki region. Read more »

    Effected water resources management in region in focus of international forum in TurkmenistanThe international forum entitled “Central Asia Water Dialogue Meeting: Implementation of the IFAS Summit Conclusions and Outcomes of the UN Secretary-General’s visit to Central Asia” took place in the Turkmen capital. The participants of the forum held at the UN Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia were the high-ranking officials of the Central Asian governments and the authoritative international organizations including the United Nations, the European Union, OSCE, the World Bank and the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).     Tajikistan puts forward Mountain of Pamirs and archeological site of Sarazm for possible inscription on UNESCO World heritage List

    This year’s session of the World Heritage Committee to consider World Heritage Tentative List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) runs in the Brazilian capital, Brasilia from 25 July to 3 August.

    According to it, for the first time, Tajikistan, Kiribati, and Marshall Islands have put forward sites for possible inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Read more »

    NATO Secretary-General discusses regional situation in Dushanbe

    The world community appreciates Tajikistan’s contribution to stabilizing the uneasy situation in Afghanistan and in the region in general, the republic’s security service said NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen as saying at the talks with Tajik Security Council Secretary Amirkul Azimov.

    On Sunday, Rasmussen made a short stop at the airport of Dushanbe on his way to Kabul, where an international conference on Afghanistan opens.

    “During the talks the Tajik authorities reiterated their firm and consecutive position on a political solution to Afghanistan’s problem and the soonest possible post-crisis restoration,” Tajik Security Council Secretary Amirkul Azimov said.

    “It is necessary to put an end to the chaos in Afghanistan in the shortest possible time and take all necessary measures for long-suffering people of this friendly neighboring country to find peace and tranquility,” he said.

    During the talks the NATO Secretary-General and the Tajik Security Council Secretary focused on drugs trafficking and the need for tougher fight against drug producers and drug dealers.

    Rasmussen also held a short meeting with Tajik Defense Minister Sherali Khairulloyev and after this left for Kabul.

    The informal summit of the leaders of the Collective Security Treaty Organizations will be held in 20-s of August in Erevan, reported RIA Novosti with reference to CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha. There is agreement between the presidents, he added.”The agenda of the meeting is developed now, which will be submitted for consideration of the President of Armenia and other CSTO leaders in the nearest days,” Bordyuzha said. The situation in Kyrgyzstan will be considered at the summit, CSTO Secretary General said. CSTO includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
