The representatives of the 180 companies specializing in production of pharmaceutical products and medical equipment and international experts in various fields of medicine from 43 countries including Germany, Britain, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, India and Russia arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the forum.

It is symbolic that the exhibition is held on the eve of the 15th anniversary of the adoption of the new health strategy that is embodied in the Health Programme developed by the national leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the Day of Healthcare and Medical Workers established in accordance with the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan last year.

Keen interest shown by foreign companies manufacturing state-of-the-art medical equipment and pharmaceutical products in Turkmenistan is conditioned by the reform launched in the national health system on the initiative of the Turkmen leader guaranteeing high-quality medical services to citizens of the country.

The success of the health reform is illustrated by the high quality of public health services rendered to population in the past years that is a key indicator of the wellbeing of the country and the quality of life of its citizens. This has been achieved to a larger extent through taking the measures to prevent diseases, enhance sanitary and epidemiological surveillance and popularize a healthy lifestyle, physical culture and sports that are an essential factor for promoting the national health system along the path of fundamental reforms. Mandatory vaccination has played a significant role in reducing the sickness rate in the country. Poliomyelitis has been eliminated in the country as a result of the mass child vaccination campaign held in Turkmenistan since 1997 that is proved by the international certificate on the elimination of poliovirus circulation in the territory of the country awarded to Turkmenistan in 2002. Also, this is proved by an assessment prepared by the specialists of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry in collaboration with the experts of the WHO Regional Office for Europe (WHO/Europe) on the measures taken by Turkmenistan to block the way to this dangerous infectious viral disease to the territory of our country. The experts concluded that the immunization activities and epidemiological surveillance meet the WHO’s requirements and conducted in a proper manner.

It should be noted that a number of large-scale health facilities amounted to hundreds of millions dollars have been built and equipped on the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in recent years throughout the country. These include the hospitals and medical institutions supplied with state-of-the-art equipment and technologies, diagnostic centers in all regions of the country, the Ene Myahri centre, etc. As of today, the Oncology Centre and the Centre of the Diseases of Head and Neck are the only institutions of this kind in Central Asia. Each of these complexes is unique and supplied with latest equipment that enables to perform complicated surgeries as well as conduct fundamental research on diagnostics and treatment of diseases. The consistent measures are taken to develop health report infrastructure in the country.

Turkmen producers, who have earned a good reputation on the domestic market, are represented at the forum along with world-renowned companies. The exposition showcases advanced technologies and innovations in the health sector and medical industry, state-of-the-art equipment, pharmaceutical products, etc.

The conference, which will be held in the framework of the international forum, will bring together scientists and health professionals from 17 countries including Russia, China, Germany, Turkey, Switzerland and Austria. The focus of discussions will be innovations in medical science, technology and pharmaceutics and advanced methods of treatment of various diseases.
