Ambassador to the U.S., Erlan Idrissov has been appointed Kazakh Foreign Minister


On Friday, 28 September, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev appointed Kazakh Ambassador to the US Erlan Idrissov as the country’s new foreign minister.

Idrissov replaces Yerzhan Kazykhanov, who was appointed to be presidential foreign policy advisor.

Prior to his appointment to Washingto

n, Idrissov served as ambassador to the UK. He has previously served as Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister from 1999-2002.

Nazarbayev praised Kazykhanov for his work during his tenure, especially in overseeing Kazakhstan’s chairmanship of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) during a particularly troublesome time in the Middle East.
