Artist from Ukraine wins prize in the Third International Competition of the “Open Central Asia Book Forum and Literature Festival 2014”

The illustration to the story “Girl with golden wings”, painted by Lolly (Olga Cinishin) took third place in the competition, that was held this year 14-17 November at the Third International Literary Festival «Open Central Asia Book Forum & Literature Festival- 2014 (OCABF-2014) in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

«Оpen Central Asia Book Forum & Literature Festival- 2014» was held by the British publishing house “Hertfordshire Press” with the help of the National State Book Chamber of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Association of Publishers and Booksellers of Kazakhstan, the “Elena Bezrukova Centre of Training and Consulting”, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture of Kazakhstan, Akimat of Almaty city and the Kazakh Academy of Sport and Tourism.

Among the honoured guests of the festival were: Nick Rowan (UK), Janusz Leon Wisniewski (Poland), Muhtar Shahanov (Kazakhstan), Bolot Shamshiev (Kyrgyzstan) and many others.

As part of OCABF-2014 festival a literary contest was held among writers in four categories: literary work, translation and illustration for a literature work, as well as the contest among film directors who have created a video or film based on a literary work.

More than 450 authors, who represented 20 different countries of the world (among which are Central Asian countries, Russia, United Kingdom, Romania, United States, Ireland, Germany, Turkey, France, Japan, Ukraine, Georgia), took part in the 2014 contest.

Olga Sinishin became the youngest winner at the «Open Central Asia» competition.

At the age of just 12 years old she has already successfully organised a solo exhibition of works held in Ivano-Frankovsk. It helped her to realise the knowledge gained in the School of Arts as well as the support of relatives.

About 30 participants from Ukraine took part in the Open Central Asia – 2014 contest.

Finalists were selected by a special commission that included regional and international experts in the field of publishing and literature.

Elena Zinchenko is a Member of the International Writers Guild (Germany), writer, playwright, winner of the international literary competitions (“Russian Stil-2013” (Germany), “Green Wave 2012”, “Korneychukovskaya Prize” (Ukraine), “Kvarner tournament” (Croatia), and the competition named in memory of V.G.Korolenko (Russia). She has written on a number of topics including, historical, adventure novels, detective stories, screenplays for films, cartoons, plays, fairy tales and fantasy. 

  1. Literary Translation Category – Lidiyka ,translation of the work “Girl with Golden Wings”.

She was born in 1974 in Kalush, in the Ivano-Frankovsk region. In 1996 , she graduated from the National University of Carpathia, named after Stefanik. From 1996 to the present day she has been working as an English teacher in a local school. 

  1. Illustration Category – Yasya Chorna, illustrations for the novel of Natalia Deviatko “The Treasure of Ghostly Island “.

Yasya Chorna is an artist – illustrator who works with a range of materials (markers, gel pen, ink, pen, watercolor, gouache, acrylic, tempera, pastel, oil, and computer graphics), also covering book illustration, book cover design, graphics, paintings oil.
