Astana was included into the world’s top-21 smart cities, said President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev at a meeting with activists of the capital.
During the meeting, Nazarbayev also expressed his gratitude to former mayor of Astana Imangali Tasmagambetov for his fruitful work.
“For 16 years, we have not only built a new capital, but also turn it into a city that surprises and delights both the locals and the guests. Today we found that Astana was included in the top-21 smart cities in the world,” said Nazarbayev.
The list of 21 smart cities in the world is conducted annually by the Intelligent Communities Forum (USA). The most advanced cities enter the list.
Besides Astana, the list included five cities in the USA, four from Australia and Taiwan, three from Canada and one from Brazil, Japan, Kenya and New Zealand each.
Kazakh city appeared on the list for the first time.
