Business Advisory Service (BAS) of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Tajikistan, Khujand presents their office on April 14, 2010.
According to Communications Manager BAS Elena Akhmedova, the program aims to develop and improve the performance of midsize and small businesses by engaging professional consultants.
“Experts estimate that small and medium business in Tajikistan is currently going through a transitional period – she said. – Care of the planned economy and work in conditions of severe market competition should teach entrepreneurs to manage their business, earn money and help the country their investments. However, the Tajik entrepreneurs often lack the skills and knowledge for business development.
According to her, small and medium enterprises play a very important role in the development of the economy. “It’s kind of a locomotive, the course of which affect economic growth, the acceleration of scientific and technological progress, the saturation of the market with quality goods and services of own production”, – added Akhmedova.
The presentation ceremony will be attended by the chairman of the city of Khujand Sodikdzhon Mirholikov, EBRD chief to Tajikistan Ulf Hindstrom, Director of BAS for Central Asia Gabriel Al-Salem, director of the Program in Tajikistan Akram Toshmatov and others.
During the event, participants will familiarize with the objectives and components of the program, watching television news report on the problems of small and medium business in Tajikistan with the participation of an independent economist Rustam Babajanov and entrepreneurs.
