CENTRAL ASIAN CULTURE in BOROUGH RICHMOND

At present, in 21st century, the new Central Asian countries are going through

a difficult period of transition, though the sense of national identity is getting

stronger. Music is one of the main factors in this process.

Musical instruments in Central Asia are usually considered to have a supernatural

power. Used in daily life and celebrations through myths and legends, they are

associated with “guardian angels”, aiming to protect and support people.
