Chinese Loan for South-Yolotan-Osman gas field – The China Development Bank signed a deal to lend $4.1 billion to Turkmengaz State Concern for the second phase of the development of the South Yolotan-Osman gas field. China received more than 4 billion cubic metres (bcm) of Turkmen gas last year via a pipeline that snakes nearly 2,000 km (1,250 miles) through Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan before entering China’s north-western Xinjiang region. According to reports, this loan is guaranteed by Turkmenistan’s natural gas supplies to China and is issued for 10 years. This is the second loan negotiation, followed by the initial loan in 2009 when China supplied $4 billion loan for the first phase of the South Yolotan project. President Berdymukhamedov plans to visit China in the second half of 2011 to personally seal a deal on boosting additional gas exports to China by 20 bcm a year.
