Day of the Caspian Sea was marked in the tourist zone “Avaza” on the Caspian coast of Turkmenistan. It was organized by the Ministry of Nature Protection, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Enterprise for the Caspian Sea under the President of Turkmenistan and the administration of Balkan province.
The activities celebrating Day of the Caspian Sea included a scientific-practical conference, an art exhibition, sports competitions and art contests.
The conference was held at “Hasyl” (harvest) hotel. It was attended by the heads and specialists of a number of ministries and agencies of Turkmenistan, diplomatic staff of the Embassies of the Caspian littoral states such as Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, as well as international organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme, the OSCE, the German Society for International Cooperation and the Agency for Cooperation and Coordination of Turkey accredited in Turkmenistan.
The conference discussed the major activities by the environmental agencies of Turkmenistan on the Caspian Sea. The conference agreed on the priority tasks, including a systematic monitoring of the state of biological resources and marine environment of the Caspian Sea, as well as a wide range of scientific research in this area.
