On the 13th of July 2017, HM Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Chris Allan spoke about opportunities in Uzbekistan at CATBIG meeting hosted by the British Expertise International in London.
Speaking about political and economic situation in Uzbekistan, the Ambassador highlighted positives as well as challenges for doing business in the country. He praised the period of change and modernization currently taking place under President Shavkat Mirziyoev. It is understood that reforms including currency market liberalization are expected to take place in the country, albeit at own pace.
Allan also mentioned sectors potentially attractive for potential UK investors. These include mining, oil and gas, textiles, pharmaceuticals, agribusiness, education and tourism. Asked about preferred investment forms, the diplomat said that different types of deals, including foreign direct investments, could be pursued. This would depend on the sector, Allan added.
