Secretary of State of Kazakhstan Kanat Saudabayev has chaired a meeting of the Commission under the President of Kazakhstan on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the Presidential press service informs.
The meeting focused on the pace of the realization of previous decisions of the Commission, relevant issues of the international cooperation of Kazakhstan in the sphere of non-proliferation and reduction of mass destruction weapons.
The Chairman of the Commission noted that this year was special in terms of nonproliferation. It is the year that marks the 20th anniversary of closing of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site. It is one more proof that President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev is a leader of the process of nonproliferation and reduction of weapons of mass destruction. The United Nations General Assembly declared August 29 – the day of the official closure of the Semipalatinsk test site – the International Day against Nuclear Tests. This fact proves the impact of Kazakhstan on the global process.
Upon the completion of the meeting the state bodies were given instructions on further improvement of export control, strengthening of nonproliferation and on preparations and holding of the events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of closing the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site.
