Kyrgyz-Uzbek Peace Initiative is growing and wants to offer people opportunity to meet each other. They have already organized a meet-up – fundraising event at Citron Café, which came out a great success. All proceeds in the amount of $1120 are being donated to relief efforts of Red Cross in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
On Saturday, June 19, 2010, Kyrgyz-Uzbek Peace Initiative is planning to organize another meet-up at Slaviya Café, 2424 18th Street NW, Washington, DC 20009, USA, at 12:00-14:00 PM.
Goal of this event is introducing each other and exploring ways to help people in Kyrgyzstan and across the border in Uzbekistan.
The Kyrgyz-Uzbek Peace Initiative have developed and spread petitions to US and world leaders calling for immediate help. US government committed $32m to humanitarian aid to southern Kyrgyzstan on June 16.
They participated in a peaceful demonstration to raise awareness in front of the White House on June 13th which was quoted in major newspapers in US and Europe.
They are also honoring victims of atrocities in southern Kyrgyzstan with a special campaign – Day of Mourning on July 11, 2010 – through fasting all day and making donations to help the refugees. Please join them in this campaign.
