Germany’s Hamburg hosted a literary soiree dedicated to 290th anniversary of the national poet of Turkmenistan, Magtymguly Pyragy.
Organized by the Turkmen Embassy, the German branch of the Humanitarian Association of Turkmens of the World and Yamrali Trading GmbH, the event brought together representatives of the public and business communities of Hamburg, writers and artists, as well as Turkmen expat communities living in Germany, Denmark, Finland and Sweden.
Scholars and literary critics made presentations on the life and work of the classic of the Turkmen literature. Magtymguly’s poetry was recited. In addition, a concert was held.
An exhibition of the poet’s verse albums and books devoted to his life and literary heritage was presented as well.
Magtymguly Pyragy was a Turkmen spiritual leader and philosophical poet who made significant efforts to secure independence and autonomy for his people in the 18th century. He promoted the idea of keeping the Turkmen way sacred, as well as maintaining the unity and integrity of the Turkmen nation.
