Kazakh President N.Nazarbayev has opened the OSCE Conference on Tolerance and Non-discrimination today, the Presidential press service reports.
The President noted that the last decade of the last century and the first decade of this century brought dramatic changes to the notion of tolerance itself and to the practical policy at the OSCE space.
The Head of the State said that Kazakhstan as the OSCE chairman intended to contribute to the promotion of the idea of tolerance, interethnic peace and interconfessional accord at the OSCE space.
“Our country promotes the development of the dialogue between the Muslim world and West and is a member of the Group of Friends of the Alliance of Civilizations. Taking into consideration the essential contribution of our country to strengthening of the intercivilizational dialogue the UN actively supports Kazakhstan’s proposal on announcement of 2010 the International Year of the Rapprochement of Cultures”, the President said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed assurance that this Conference would generate new progressive ideas for promotion of tolerance, non-discrimination and fight against all forms of intolerance.
The Head of the state wished participants of the conference fruitful work.
