DUSHANBE, October 6, 2015, Asia-Plus — The British Embassy in Dushanbe and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre announce that on November 1 the Shakespeare Globe Theatre Company will perform Hamlet, one of the greatest English language play ever written, at the Opera and Ballet Theater in Dushanbe.
According to the British Embassy, the production is part of a two year global tour ‘The Globe to Globe-Hamlet’. Sixteen extraordinary men and women are travelling across seven continents to perform Hamlet in a huge range of unique and atmospheric venues. The tour opened at Shakespeare’s Globe on April 23, 2014, the 450th Anniversary of the playwright’s birth.
Artistic director of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre Dominic Dromgole said: “I am delighted that we will be playing in the highly esteemed Ayni Opera and Ballet Theater in Dushanbe. We have been touring Hamlet for 18 months across the world and Tajikistan will be the 141st country in which we have performed. We are very grateful for the continuous support of the British Embassy who has made this opportunity possible, and we hope that our performance in November is just the start of an ongoing relationship that will continue long into future.”
British Ambassador to Tajikistan Hugh Philpott said: “We are truly excited to have the opportunity to facilitate this performance of Hamlet by world renowned British theatre company. It gives me greater pleasure to welcome Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre for the first time to Dushanbe. I am so pleased they will be presenting Hamlet, a personal favorite of mine, to a Tajik audience.”
Performance will be held at the Ayni Opera and Ballet Theater on November 1. It will start 18:00 and last approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. Performance will be in 2 Acts accompanied with a 15 minute interval. Tickets cost 50 Tajik somoni.
