Turkmenistan to revive book publishing industry
The country in 2013 will expand the Turkmen-language publishing programme, which lay dormant for years under the rule of Sapamurat Niyazov.

ASHGABAT – Turkmenistan is reviving its long-dormant book industry with hopes of boosting nationwide readership by publishing more foreign classics and popular books in Turkmen.
The State Publishing Service this year plans to publish one-third more books than it did last year, it said in a press release. The service said it would make it a priority to translate foreign literary works and to increase the number of new books translated into Turkmen.

The books on the 2013 publishing calendar will include international classics such as Shakespeare’s plays, as well as works by Chingiz Aitmatov, Mark Twain, Nodar Dumbadze and Ken Derby, said Resulberdi Khalilov, a representative at the Ashgabat Press House’s printing shop who expressed excitement about the prospect of more books being published in Turkmen. GAZPROM-TURKMEN Cooperation – Deputy CEO of Gazprom Valery Golubev visited Ashgabat to meet with the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Golubev stressed the interest of Gazprom in the expansion of partnership with Turkmenistan in the energy sector. The Turkmen President also reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s interest in building a mutually beneficial partnership with Russian companies with huge production and technological capabilities, including Gazprom. During the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of agreements on natural gas supplies to Gazprom this year. In particular, as stressed by Golubev, principle of pricing in the purchase of Turkmen gas adopted earlier on the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan today gives very good results. In accordance with the changing situation on the oil market, value and volumes of supplies of Turkmen natural gas is also changing accordingly to the positive side. The sides also discussed the ways of cooperation in the implementation of new infrastructure projects in the oil and gas industry, as well as gas and chemical industry development in Turkmenistan. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed the relevant officials of the fuel and energy sector to specify the details and conditions for the realization of joint projects in these areas.

Ambitious goals set before Turkmen horse breeders
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov set a number of large-scale goals for the horse-breeding industry of Turkmenistan during his visit to a new modern equestrian complex being built in Akhal province.
Relevant officials were instructed to allocate tracts of land in each province for the production of feed for horses, put on a scientific basis preparation of special food for purebred Akhal-Teke horses, as well as provide for the construction of specialized enterprises for production of fortified supplements for nutrition of horses.
He also put a task to open in Ashgabat, and eventually in all provinces of the country, small plants for production of various saddles, bridles, stirrups and other necessary supplies for horses and riders. Turkmenistan’s Steel Works was instructed to set up production of horse hooves.
According to the order of the president, each racetrack of Turkmenistan should be provided with special vehicles for transportation of Akhal-Teke horses.
As for breeding, the President of Turkmenistan issued instructions to set up a Research Institute of Horse Breeding and establish strict control over the conduct of the primary account of racers, build stables for breeding of purebred horses, and establish the work of veterinary services.
“We must also open up schools to train specialists-horse breeders. We should prepare all the necessary literature, from books and various manuals on breeding Akhal-Teke horses up to a set of rules for horse-riders taking part in international equestrian competitions. We should also ensure that special sand is used on racetracks and constantly monitor its quality,” the president said.
Issues relating to achieving these goals will be discussed soon at a special conference of the International Association of Akhal Teke breeding headquartered in Ashgabat.
