SOHU and ITE & MICE join forces to launch online QUIZ to promote international tourism

An online Quiz on “World Destination’s Landmark” will be held from April to May this year in SOHU Travel, where participants from different parts of mainland China are shown and be randomly asked to identify landmark of some 60 international destinations drawn mostly from those exhibited / exhibiting in ITE & MICE.

Participation to the online Quiz is free. Those who got all their answers right will be eligible for lucky draw with grand prizes of free trip to visiting Hong Kong and ITE & MICE 2012. Winners will be announced at the end of May this year at SOHU Travel.

SOHU is a leading portal in China, and SOHU Travel ranks top in Chinese online travel media with daily 32 million hits and 3.1 million unique visitors. Among its visitors, 88% have post-secondary, university education or above, and 49% in management positions or being technical experts; 83% aged between 23 to 49, and 64% had monthly income of RMB3000 or above.

Organized by SOHU which will also be solely responsible for administering the online quiz, it will be promoted in landing pages of SOHU (http://sohu.com), SOHU Travel Outbound (http://travel.sohu.com/shijie.shtml), SOHU News (http://news.sohu.com), and SOHU Travel (http://travel.sohu.com). TKS and ITE & MICE are honored to be the Quiz’s Co-organizer.

Besides the online Quiz, SOHU Travel as Supporting Media for ITE & MICE, will also launch in April a mini-site for ITE & MICE, and send journalists to attend and report on the travel expo in Hong Kong.

Tourism authorities exhibiting in ITE & MICE are welcomed to contribute photos / images of their landmark to the online quiz and contents to the ITE & MICE mini-site, but SOHU retains editorial right.

ITE & MICE, the only international travel fair in Hong Kong which will next be held from June 14 to 17 this year at halls 1A to 1E of the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Center, is organized by TKS Exhibition Services Ltd.

“Legends of Asia”

On May 07th , 2011, at 12:00 p.m., the “Granart” Gallery has the honor to present the opening of “Legends of Asia” Sale exhibition. This exhibition will be conducted in order to facilitate the development of folk crafts, support craftsmen and familiarize everyone with the rich cultural heritage and ancient traditions of Uzbekistan.

Here you will have an opportunity to buy the unique samples of national embroidery, embossing masterpieces, ceramic products, handmade fabric, modern and antique jewelry, silk and wool carpets, national clothes and garments, wood carvings, lacquered miniatures and rag dolls in national costumes at the primary prices of craftsmen.

You will discover the original paintings and drawings of contemporary Samarkand’s

artist Toir Sharipov. He got the inspiration in national motives of Uzbek textile prints. The avant- garde stylistics and imaginative world organically synthesized in his creative works.

And undeservedly lost artworks of russian artist Zasivenko V.A. will be exhibited as well. The creative search brought him to Fergana city of Uzbekistan at the beginning of 20th century. His art works were exhibited and ranked on a par with such a great avant-guard paintings of Volkov A.N., Bure L.L. and Karahan N.G. His paintings are remarkable with solid Russian school of impressionism. The rich national life and traditions, landscapes and the architecture found the reflection in his art works.

The event will be followed with Uzbek folk music and accompanied with dishes of the Uzbek national cuisine.

Opening of this cultural event will be family-oriented. Famous painters and sculptors shall give free master classes on drawing, clay modelling and art painting for children and adults.

Paintings of children graduated from our art studio will be shown as well.

The Sale exhibition shall be open till the end of May, 2011. We invite all the people who wish to enjoy the unique beauty and power of national art and find a new source of inspiration.

Kazakhstan at Christies, London

ALREADY SHOWING! ‘Treasures of Kazakhstan’ is a loan exhibition of Russian and Kazakh art from the Kasteev State Museum of Arts in Almaty and private collections. The exhibition, on show at Christies headquarters in London, includes masterpieces from the last 80 years of Kazakh art.

Colors of the Oasis: Central Asian Ikats at the Textile Museum in Washington

Murad Megalli’s fine collection of ikat textiles and garments will go on show for the first time at the Textile Museum in Washington this autumn. The collection, donated to the museum over the last five years, comprises a diverse array of nineteenth-century ikats, and the exhibition will place these in their socio-economic context as well as teaching the visitor about the production of ikat historically and today. The exhibition looks set to be another ikat blockbuster, and associated events, including an opening symposium, will add to its appeal. Afghanistan Observed in Herat

This exhibition reflects the observations of European visitors to Afghanistan between 1830 and 1920 – a period during which Afghans’ relations with the outside world was critical not only for the country and region, but for the superpowers at the time.

The exhibition features 150 prints that relate to the history and culture of Afghanistan, selected from the collections of the British Library and including drawings by Charles Masson, watercolours by James Atkinson and photographs by John Burke. The exhibition opened in Kabul in April and is currently showing in the Chahar Suq in Herat.

“Asian Reunion on Silk Road” exhibition in Bishkek

From July 23 to 25, 2010, an exhibition will be opened, called “Asian Reunion on Silk Road, in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
