SHGABAT – Only Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will represent Central Asia in the second round of men’s Olympic football qualifiers, as the first round ended March 9.
Turkmenistan handled Indonesia 1-0 at home after defeating it 3-1 February 23 on the road. Ruslan Mingazov scored for Turkmenistan.
Kyrgyzstan, playing in Bishkek, battled Iran to a 0-0 tie, but Iran’s 1-0 victory February 23 allowed Iran to advance.
Tajikistan, playing at home in Tursunzade, lost 3-1 to Oman. Davronjon Tukhtasunov scored for Tajikistan. Oman advances to the second round, after beating Tajikistan twice, including 4-1 February 23.
Pakistan tied Malaysia 0-0 in Lahore, but Malaysia’s February 23 2-0 victory means it advances it to the second round.
Uzbekistan received a bye, enabling it to reach the second round without first-round play. Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan will learn the identities of their second-round foes at a March 30 drawing in Kuala Lumpur.
