His Excellency Senator Sadik Safaev, Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Relations of  Uzbek Parliament, visited London at the invitation of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 23 – 26 February 2010.

The main purpose of the visit was further strengthening relationships between the UK and Uzbek parliaments, and Senator Safaev met with Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Chris Bryant MP, and had a number of high level meetings at the Houses of Parliament, including with members of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Uzbekistan and of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

During the visit Senator Safaev also had discussions on a broad range of priority areas of co-operation in bilateral relations, including Afghanistan, strengthening relationships with British business operating in Uzbekistan and consolidating educational links between the two countries.  His busy schedule included meetings at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, at the Ministry of Defence, with business leaders with interests in Uzbekistan organised by the Uzbek-British Trade and Industry Council, with the British Council, the University of Westminster and at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies..
