Uzbekistan to celebrate 100th anniversary of national poet Zulfiya


Uzbekistan plans to celebrate the 100th anniversary of national poet Zulfiya. President Islam Karimov signed the relevant resolution on 31 October.

The Uzbek leader thus approved proposal of state and public bodies, as well as representatives of public on celebration of the anniversary of the poet.

Zulfiya (full name Zulfiya Isroilova) descents from a family of craftspeople in Tashkent. Her first poem was published on 17 July 1931 in the Uzbek newspaper.

Zulfiya’s first collection of poetry was published in 1932. In the following decades, she wrote patriotic poems, pacifist works, as well as covered nature and woman topics.

Within the celebrations, it is planned to publish books of the poet in Uzbek, English and Karakalpak languages, and to shoot a film about her life.
