From 1st November 2011, the John Smith Memorial Trust is accepting applications for its 2012 Fellowship Programme.

Applications for Fellowships are invited from the following countries:

Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine

The Fellowship aims to strengthen and deepen awareness of good governance through a three week programme in the UK and placements that show the workings of organisations within a long established democracy. OSCE Summit in Astana – A Promising Beginning

The first OSCE summit in eleven years finished with the adoption of the Astana Commemorative Declaration on 2nd December 2010. With negotiations that ran into the small hours, the declaration re-affirmed the organisation’s existing values and has not only set the stage for revitalising the OSCE, but also for providing renewed impetus on global security co-operation. Although it did not provide the series of key action items and agreement on important issues that host country, Kazakhstan, would have wanted, this should be considered as an important new dawn.

Independent Anticorruption Council Established in Kazakhstan

With the support of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, the Independent Anticorruption Council (IAC) was established in order to unite public associations, independent experts and representatives of businesses to help reduce the level of corruption in Kazakhstan.

IAC activities are aimed at fighting corruption in Kazakhstan by providing objective information for state bodies and citizens on the causes of corruption, as well as on its possible solutions. At the moment IAC includes representatives of 15 public associations of Kazakhstan. Continue reading

The Film Festival “Friendship” dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory opened in the cinema center “Turkmenistan” in Ashgabat on June 14. It has been organized by the Ministry of Culture and Broadcasting of Turkmenistan, Russian Embassy in Turkmenistan and “Soveksportfilm” under the auspices and with the support of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of CIS member states.
